Materials
Post / indicator Hi-vis poly yarn or Para Post, fluorescent orange (white or pink also used) (small clump)
Tail Blue dun (or white) Microfibetts / Mayfly Tails, split (2-3 per side)
Body / abdomen Black tying thread or black Superfine dubbing (slim) (-)
Thorax Black Superfine dubbing (tiny pinch)
Hackle Grizzly (or dark dun) dry-fly hackle wound parachute around the post (1 feather)
How to tie it
Start the black thread and tie in a small upright clump of fluorescent orange poly yarn at about the 70% point as the parachute post; post it vertical. The bright post lets you follow this tiny fly in the low light of a Trico spinner fall.
At the bend, tie in a few blue dun Microfibett tails, split into a narrow V (2-3 per side) about a shank length long.
Tie in the grizzly hackle by its stem at the base of the post.
Build a very slim black body (thread or a whisper of black dubbing) from the tail forward to the post.
Wind the grizzly hackle 3-4 turns parachute-style around the base of the orange post, then tie off and trim.
Add a tiny black dubbing thorax if needed to cover the tie-down, whip finish behind the eye, and keep the head small.
