Bodkin / Patterns

Inchworm

Terrestrial · Trout · Panfish · Beginner · 1 version

Classic Recipe

  • Hook Standard dry fly, 2x long, 10-14
  • Thread Chartreuse 6/0

Materials

  • Body Chartreuse foam or deer hair (cylindrical)
  • Rib Thread (optional segmentation)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the long hook, tie in a chartreuse foam cylinder or bundle of deer hair at the bend.
  2. Bind it along the shank at 3-4 points, letting it bulge between wraps into worm segments.
  3. Let a stub overhang each end. Inchworms are longer than the hook.
  4. Whip finish.

Substitutions

  • Body instead of Chartreuse foam or deer hair: Chartreuse foam cylinder — Simple and effective; Chartreuse dubbing on extended body — Different texture; Green Ultra Chenille — Quick to wrap
