Wrap 0.015 lead wire over the front third of the shank. Start the brown thread, dam it behind the wire, take a few wraps over it and lock it in front, then run the thread back to the bend.
Strip 10-15 of the longer Grizzly hackle fibers from the base of the feather and bind them in at the bend as a tail about one hook gap long. Bind the butts forward and leave the thread just behind the weight.
Cut a length of Wool yarn and split off a single strand. Catch it in just behind the weight with a pinch wrap, then bind it back to the base of the tail.
Advance the thread to about mid-shank. Wrap the yarn forward: let the first two turns lie flat to keep the rear thin, then twist it into a tighter cord with each successive turn so the body tapers thicker toward the front. Catch it off on TOP of the shank at the front of the weight with two tight wraps.
Fold the yarn back on itself to make a loop over the body and pin it with a wrap. That loop is the wingcase; push it out of the way for now.
Take the same Grizzly hackle, find where the legs are the length you want, strip the stem there and catch it in on the bare stem at the front of the abdomen while holding the yarn loop back. Orientation does not matter because it gets trimmed top and bottom. Snip the stem nub.
Pull the feather aside and wrap the yarn forward again over the thorax, laying it flat but stacking a few wraps so the thorax is slightly thicker than the abdomen. Stop well short of the eye and tie off.
Palmer the hackle forward over the thorax, five or six turns (more than you think you need). Catch it off, snip the tip and any fibers pointing forward.
Reach in and cut a swath of hackle off the top and off the bottom so the barbs remain only on the sides as legs. Blow the clippings clear.
Fold the yarn wingcase forward over the thorax, keeping it centered on top so it forms a fat bulb. Take a couple of wraps, check it, add one more to lock it, then cut the yarn as close as you can.
Take the thread to the eye, build a ramp back up for the head, whip finish and add a drop of head cement.
