Reference Recipe

  • Hook Curved scud/nymph hook, 16-18
  • Thread Red 70 denier

Materials

  • Tungsten bead Silver bead (1, sized to hook)
  • Red thread (body) Red thread
  • Fine flash or wire (rib) Pearl/silver flashabou (1 strand)
  • Ice Dub (collar) Black or peacock ice dub (tiny pinch)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the tungsten bead to the eye and start the red thread behind it.
  2. Tie in a strand of fine pearl flash at the bead and wrap the thread back to around the bend.
  3. Build a slim, smooth, slightly tapered red thread body forward to just behind the bead.
  4. Counter-wrap the flash rib forward in 5-6 open turns to segment the body, then tie off and snip.
  5. Dub a very sparse black or peacock Ice Dub collar behind the bead, distributed evenly all the way around so it looks the same from every angle.
  6. Whip finish behind the bead and add a drop of head cement.
