Start the Black 140 denier thread around the middle of the 3X long streamer hook and take it all the way to the bend. There is no tail.
Catch in the medium Silver tinsel at the rear where the body will begin, and back the thread off slightly.
Strip the fibres from the end of the small Red chenille so you can bind in the bare core, and take the thread forward, stopping a good way behind the eye to leave room for the wing and collar. Wrap the chenille forward in touching turns to the thread, bind off and snip.
Counter-wrap the Silver tinsel forward over the chenille so it rides on top instead of dropping into the grooves left by the chenille, then bind off.
Take a tuft of red Icelandic wool, pull out the longest fibres by hand until the bunch is even, and bind it in on top about one and a half body-lengths long. Snip the butts.
Take a same-size tuft of yellow Icelandic wool, tidy it the same way, and bind it directly over the red the same length or a little longer. Spin the thread clockwise to tighten it and take a few tight wraps.
Take a few wraps over the butts to smooth a ramp so the collar hackle has a level base.
Tie in a cheap, strong Red saddle hackle from the long-barb end so the barbs sweep back near the hook point. Leave the stem long for a moment and bind it down as a ramp, then take five or six turns of hackle, wrapping the feather and not the wool.
Sweep everything back, snip the excess hackle, build a big streamer head over the butts, whip finish, and add a drop of head cement.
