Reference Recipe

  • Hook Heavy-wire curved scud hook (Daiichi 1120), 14
  • Thread Olive 70 denier

Materials

  • Tungsten bead Gold bead (1, 2.8mm)
  • Pearl tinsel (underbody) Pearl mylar tinsel (1 length)
  • Midge body tubing (body) Olive ostrich herl (1 length)
  • Ice Dub (wing) Olive-brown fine dubbing (small pinch)
  • Synthetic dubbing (collar) Hare's ear (pinch)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the gold tungsten bead to the eye and start the thread behind it.
  2. Tie in the pearl tinsel and the olive midge tubing at the bend.
  3. Wrap the pearl tinsel forward to behind the bead for a bright underbody and tie off.
  4. Wrap the olive tubing forward over the tinsel in touching turns so the flash shows through, and tie off behind the bead.
  5. Tie in a short olive-brown Ice Dub wing over the body, reaching to the hook point.
  6. Dub or split-thread a sparse hare's-ear collar behind the bead.
  7. Whip finish behind the bead and cement.
