Reference Recipe
- Hook Curved Czech-nymph / scud hook, 10-16
- Thread Olive 70 denier
Materials
- Tungsten or brass bead Copper bead (1, sized to hook)
- Pearl mylar tinsel (underbody) Pearl mylar tinsel (1 length)
- Midge body tubing (body) Olive ostrich herl (1 length)
- Ice Dub (wing) Olive-brown fine dubbing (small pinch)
- Synthetic dubbing (collar) Dark hare's ear (pinch)
How to tie it
- Slide the copper bead to the eye and start the thread behind it.
- Tie in the pearl mylar and the olive midge tubing at the bend, then wrap the thread forward.
- Wrap the pearl mylar forward to behind the bead to make a flashy underbody and tie off.
- Wrap the olive tubing forward over the mylar in touching turns so the pearl glows through, and tie off behind the bead.
- Tie in a short wing of olive-brown Ice Dub over the body, reaching to about the hook point.
- Spin a sparse dark hare's-ear collar in a split thread and take 1-2 turns behind the bead for legs and thorax.
- Whip finish behind the bead and add a drop of cement. Wing pads and antennae are deliberately left off to keep it a fast, bulk tie.
