How to tie it
Slide the gritty tungsten bead onto the Stealth N6, mount the hook, and start the Semperfli 12/0 behind the bead, running thread down the shank.
Pick a marabou feather and cut the tip out. Assess how the fibres will end up, and where they are stringy, preen the straggles off by tearing rather than cutting so the taper is kept.
Measure the tail to about 1.25 times the overall hook length and tie it in at the rear with securing wraps working forward up the shank, five wraps, then hold the butts up and trim, and tidy the underbody.
Fold a long strand of pink flash into quarters so you get four strands per side, tie them in on the near side and work back about four wraps, then take the flying V, fold up and over and tie in on the opposing side. Trim the ends roughly level with the marabou tail. It is a little stiffer than the marabou and helps give the tail direction.
Set the multi-loop tool: run the thread through the middle of the tool, hold it straight up with your thumb, insert it and throw the bobbin over the vice, then adjust so the tool hangs about half an inch off the pedestal and secure the thread at the back. The tool sits open when perpendicular and closes under its own weight when you let it hang.
Clamp a bunch of the same marabou and cut it right next to the stem. Cutting it off the stem rather than palmering the feather gives a slimmer body with no thick stem in it.
Pull the loop out perpendicular to the shank, insert the clamped marabou and let the weight of the tool hold it, then release the clamp.
Add the Semperfli Ice Straggle to the loop: lay a strip in at the top, pull it down along the fibres, hook it through and wrap it round the catch on the back of the tool so it is trapped. That saves the first four or five turns you would otherwise have to make by hand to stop the straggle string slipping out.
Hold the bobbin clear and spin the loop up.
Half hitch to secure, get the thread out of the way on the bobbin rest, and wrap the finished brush forward to the bead.
Build up a little bulk behind the bead, check the brush is trapped, and finish with a double three-turn whip finish.
