How to tie it
Slide a flat matte black tungsten bead onto the hook, mount it, start Nano Silk and build a small taper behind the bead.
Pull about six Coq de Leon fibres and tie them in on top of the shank. Leave them a touch longer than usual. The fibres are dead straight and it looks right. Trim the excess.
Tie in 6X tippet on top of the shank first, keeping it clear of the tail fibres so it does not tangle in them, then tie in the 0.1 mm pink wire alongside it, also on top. Bind both back and finish the thread at the tail.
Dub blue Ice Dub onto the thread a little at a time, too big a pinch and it clumps. Keep the noodle thin where it meets the tail and let it thicken as you work forward, so the nymph tapers up to the bead. If a bit will not spin on, cut it out; buggier is better anyway.
Rib the pink wire forward in the opposite direction to your dubbing wraps, so it counter-ribs the body and segments it. Take a couple of extra turns hard against the bead to lock it, then snip.
Now follow with the 6X tippet in the same direction as the body wraps, which is counter to the wire, which is counter to the body. That layered opposition is what makes it durable. Tie off and cut.
Load gold Ice Dub on a bit thicker for the collar. Crank the first wrap down into the gap behind the bead, then take a couple more turns over the top of it.
A few wraps in front, then a double whip finish. Keep good tension on the Nano Silk as you cut it or it frays.
Run resin so a little goes between the bead and the Ice Dub and a little over the collar itself. That resin is what holds the whole fly together. Cure ten to fifteen seconds and trim any stragglers.
