Tail Red Ultra Chenille, tapered with a lighter (1)
Body Root beer or olive Crystal/Estaz chenille (1)
How to tie it
Tie bead-chain or dumbbell eyes on top of the shank behind the hook eye so the fly rides point-up.
Tie in a length of red Ultra Chenille at the bend extending about one shank length; singe the tip with a lighter to taper it worm-fashion.
Tie in Crystal chenille at the tail tie-in and wrap it forward in touching turns to the eyes, stroking the fibers back each turn for a plump, sparkly body.
Figure-eight around the eyes, whip finish and cement. The fat flashy body reads as a cracked-open clam and the tail as a worm, hence the name.
Vary body color (root beer, olive, damsel blue) to match local forage.
