Wrap 8-10 turns of lead-free wire over the middle of the shank, start the olive thread and lock the wraps down.
Tie in 3 pheasant tail fibers at the bend for a short tail, about half a shank long.
Tie in the copper wire rib and lay a wide section of mottled turkey along the top for the shellback.
Dub a tapered olive-brown abdomen forward to the 60% mark.
Counter-wrap the copper rib forward in 5 evenly spaced turns, then helicopter it to break off the tag.
Dub a fuller thorax, then pull the turkey over the top as a humped wingcase and bind it behind the eye. That raised hump gives the fly its hunched back.
Fold a few partridge fibers to each side as legs, dub a small head, whip finish and coat the wingcase with UV resin or head cement.
