Howitzer Baitfish Popper

Terrestrial · Largemouth Bass · Smallmouth Bass · Pike · Intermediate · 1 version

Classic Recipe

  • Hook Popper/stinger hook, 2-6
  • Thread White or chartreuse 140D

Materials

  • Head Howitzer foam popper head (1)
  • Tail Bucktail + flash (baitfish taper)
  • Collar Brushed Ice Dub or Laser Dub (full)
  • Eyes 3D adhesive (1 pair)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the popper/stinger hook and lay a thread base back to the bend.
  2. Tie in a bucktail tail with a few strands of flash at the bend, tapering it to a baitfish profile, one to two shank lengths long.
  3. Build a full brushed collar of Ice Dub or Laser Dub in front of the tail and brush it out for bulk and push.
  4. Slide the Howitzer foam head onto the shank, seat it against the collar and glue it firmly in place; the deep-cupped face is what throws water on the strip.
  5. Stick a 3D eye on each side of the head.
  6. Whip finish where the head meets the collar and cement.
