Collar Natural case (pine squirrel spun in a dubbing loop)
Hot spot Fluorescent orange egg sac (tying thread)
How to tie it
Slide an orange slotted tungsten bead on the jig hook and start fluorescent orange thread. Tie a short tail of Coq de Leon fibers in at the rear, then small gold wire.
Dub a slim body of natural hare's ear forward to about the 70% mark and rib it with the gold wire in open spirals, then tie the wire off.
Wrap a strand of peacock herl for the thorax, then strip the herl back out and lay down a short thread band. Wrapping it and removing it leaves a slightly rough, dark base that the squirrel collar grips.
Build a dubbing loop, load it with natural pine squirrel with the hide attached, spin it and brush it out.
Wrap the spun squirrel as a collar behind the bead and sweep the fibers back with each turn so nothing gets trapped.
Form a small fluorescent orange hot spot in front of the collar and whip finish, the bright band against the drab body is what makes fish commit.
