How to tie it
Start the orange floss on the hook and wind it back around the bend, then forward, back again and forward once more to build a bright bulbous butt; finish it with a three-turn whip finish and cut it off. The floss is done with at this point.
Start the black nano silk in front of the butt, flatten the thread and wrap back to where the butt bulb ends, then forward again.
Tie the silver wire in along the near side of the shank, carrying it back around the bend with the hook, and stop the thread short of the front so the hackle area stays clear.
Wax the thread well, then dub the black Spectra dubbing on in small batches: thin at the back, fattening through the middle like a scud body, then thinning again toward the front. Leave a clear space behind the eye for the hackle.
Strip the fluff off the butt of a black cock hackle and tie it in by the butt with the shiny side facing you, wrapping in front of and on top of the stem so it cannot pull out; trim the stub.
Take one full turn of hackle, then a half turn, then open the turns out backward over the front of the body, getting one more turn at the rear of the hackle area; tie off.
Wind the silver wire forward through the hackle, jiggling it as you go so it does not trap barbs; tie it off with three turns behind the hackle and three in front, then helicopter the tag off.
Stroke everything back, build a tiny head, then brush the body with a scrap of Velcro to free any trapped fibres and pull out a little sparkle.
Tie a hot orange goose biot in on each side as a cheek, curve facing in, reaching back to about the hook point and angled slightly up; take five good tight turns per side, then trim the butts as close as you can while keeping tension on the thread.
Whip finish with four turns and touch the thread head with Sally Hansen's.
