Hot spot / collar Fluorescent orange (or fl. pink / chartreuse) thread or Ice Dub, small collar behind the bead (-)
How to tie it
Slide a gold bead to the eye. Start brown thread behind the bead and wrap to the bend.
Tie in 3-4 pheasant tail fibers at the bend for a tail about half a shank-length long, and catch in a strand of fine copper wire.
Tie in 5-6 pheasant tail fibers by the tips, wrap them forward as the abdomen to about the 60% point and tie off.
Counter-rib the abdomen with 4-5 open turns of copper wire to reinforce the pheasant tail, then helicopter off the excess.
Tie in 2 strands of peacock herl and wrap a small thorax up to just short of the bead.
Build a bright hot-spot collar directly behind the bead with a few wraps of fl. orange thread (or a tiny pinch of fl. orange Ice Dub). This bright band is the whole point of the fly.
