  • Hook Standard nymph hook, 14-18

Materials

  • Bead Hot orange or pink (metallic) bead (One, sized to hook)
  • Tail Pheasant tail fibers (3-4 fibers)
  • Rib Copper wire (Fine, one length)
  • Abdomen Pheasant tail fibers (Small bunch)
  • Thorax Peacock herl (1-2 strands)
  • Wingcase Pheasant tail fibers (Reserved abdomen tips)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the hot bead to the eye and start the thread behind it.
  2. At the bend tie in 3-4 pheasant tail fibers by the tips for a tail half a shank long, and bind in the copper wire.
  3. Wrap the same pheasant fibers forward as the abdomen to the 60% mark and tie off, leaving the butts pointing forward.
  4. Counter-wrap the copper wire forward in 4-5 open turns and tie off; helicopter to break the tag.
  5. Tie in peacock herl and wrap a plump thorax up to the bead.
  6. Fold the reserved pheasant tips forward over the thorax as a wingcase, tie down behind the bead, whip finish and cement.
