Hot Head Damsel

Nymph · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Classic Recipe

  • Hook 2x nymph, 10-12
  • Thread Olive 8/0

Materials

  • Bead Fl. orange or pink bead (1)
  • Tail Olive marabou (short)
  • Body Olive dubbing (slim)
  • Rib Wire (spiral)
  • Legs Olive hen (sparse)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a fluorescent orange or pink bead to the eye and mount the 2x nymph hook behind it.
  2. At the bend tie in a short tuft of olive marabou, no longer than half a shank, as a mobile tail.
  3. Catch in the wire rib, then dub a slim olive body forward to just behind the bead; damsel nymphs are slender, so keep it thin.
  4. Spiral the wire forward in 4-5 open turns as a rib, tie off and snip.
  5. Tie in a sparse olive hen hackle and take 1-2 turns behind the bead, sweeping the fibres back as legs.
  6. Whip finish behind the bead and cement.
