  • Cone Fluorescent hot orange (or fl. red) metal/tungsten cone head, sized to hook (1)

  • Weight (optional) .020-.025" lead-free wire behind the cone (-)
  • Tail Black marabou blood quill (1 plume)
  • Tail flash Pearl or black Krystal Flash (6-8 strands)
  • Body Black medium chenille (or black Cactus Chenille for flash) (1 length)
  • Hackle Black saddle hackle, palmered (1 feather)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a fl. hot orange cone head onto the hook, small end first, and seat it behind the eye. Add several turns of lead-free wire behind the cone to weight and to jam the cone in place.
  2. Start black thread behind the wire and run to the bend. Tie in a black marabou tail one shank-length long, then 6-8 strands of Krystal Flash over it.
  3. Tie in a black saddle hackle by the tip at the bend, then tie in the black chenille.
  4. Wrap the chenille forward in touching turns to behind the cone and tie off.
  5. Palmer the black hackle forward in 6-7 evenly spaced turns to behind the cone, tie off and trim.
  6. Build a thread collar behind the cone, whip finish and cement so the fl. cone sits as the head. The cone gives the fly a jigging dip on the pause.
