  • Hook Daiichi 1120 scud hook
  • Thread rusty brown

Materials

  • Bead Black nickel bead (1)
  • Gills White uni stretch (gill material)
  • Rib Gold middle (small ultra wire)
  • Body Medium brown holographic flash (tinsel)

How to tie it

  1. Tie the gills in first with the bead pushed back, whip finish, then slide the black nickel bead forward over the tie-in and restart the rusty brown thread behind it.
  2. Build a short taper behind the bead, then bind small gold ultra wire down the full length of the body so the profile stays even.
  3. Tie the medium brown holographic tinsel in at the very back, bring the thread forward and complete the taper.
  4. Wind the brown holographic tinsel forward in touching turns to the bead and tie it off.
  5. Open-spiral the gold wire forward over the tinsel and tie off. Wrapping the wire the opposite way to the tinsel keeps it riding on top instead of dropping into the grooves.
  6. Clean up the thorax, whip finish, trim the gills, and hit the fly with glue or resin so the tinsel body survives more than a handful of fish.
