  • Thread Black 6/0 / 140 denier

Materials

  • Hook 3XL streamer hook, Tiemco 5263, #6-12 (1)
  • Bead Fluorescent hot orange (or fl. pink/chartreuse) brass/tungsten bead (1)
  • Thread Black UTC 140 denier (-)
  • Weight (optional) .020" lead-free wire, 8-10 turns (-)
  • Tail Black marabou blood quill (1 plume)
  • Tail flash Pearl or fl. Krystal Flash (4-6 strands)
  • Body Black medium chenille (or black Cactus/UV Fritz for a flashier 'Fl.' version) (1 length)
  • Hackle Black saddle hackle, palmered (1 feather)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a fl. hot orange bead onto the hook and seat it behind the eye. Add 8-10 turns of.020 lead-free wire behind the bead if you want it weighted, and jam them into the back of the bead.
  2. Start black thread behind the wire and run to the bend. Tie in a black marabou tail one shank-length long and add 4-6 strands of pearl Krystal Flash over it.
  3. Tie in a black saddle hackle by the tip at the bend, then tie in the black chenille (or fl. Fritz).
  4. Wrap the chenille forward in touching turns to behind the bead and tie off.
  5. Palmer the black hackle forward in 5-6 open turns to behind the bead, tie off and trim.
  6. Form a thread collar behind the bead, whip finish and cement so the fl. bead shows as the head.
