Classic Recipe

  • Hook Mustad 34007 standard saltwater, 2-8
  • Thread Black or red 6/0

Materials

  • Wing Brown bucktail (1 clump)
  • Body/head Yellow chenille (1 short length)

How to tie it

  1. Start the thread mid-shank and wrap a base to the 60% mark.
  2. Tie in a clump of brown bucktail on TOP of the shank at the 60% mark, tips pointing back over the hook point and extending one shank length past the bend. Mounted this way the wing flips the fly to ride hook point up, the Horror's whole trick and the reason it started the upside-down bonefish fly revolution.
  3. Bind the butts down toward the eye and trim.
  4. Tie in yellow chenille in front of the wing and wrap 3-4 touching turns to form a stubby collar/head that props the wing up.
  5. Tie off, whip finish behind the eye, and cement.
