Dry Fly · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook dry fly (2x long), 10-14
  • Thread blue 6/0

Materials

  • foam (extended body) Blue, 2mm (thin strip)
  • round rubber legs Blue/black barred rubber legs (2 pairs)
  • hackle Grizzly hackle (1)
  • poly yarn or CDC (wing) Light dun poly yarn or cdc (small tuft)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread. Bind a thin strip of blue foam at the bend and let it project one-and-a-half shank lengths past the hook as the slim extended body.
  2. Bind the foam down the shank forward to the 60% mark to seat the thorax base.
  3. Tie in a pair of rubber legs on each side at the thorax, splayed.
  4. Tie in a short poly or CDC wing flat over the back and a grizzly hackle at the thorax.
  5. Wrap the hackle 3-4 turns through the thorax and tie off.
  6. Fold a small tab of foam over the thorax to form a head, bind at the eye, whip finish, and cement.
