Reference Recipe

  • Hook hopper/dry (2x long), 8-12
  • Thread tan 6/0

Materials

  • foam (twisted body) Tan, 2mm (one strip)
  • dubbing (underbody) Tan dubbing (pinch)
  • deer hair or synthetic wing Tan/natural deer hair (small bunch)
  • round rubber legs Dark golden stone (2 pairs)
  • poly yarn (indicator) Fluorescent pink poly yarn (small tuft)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread and tie in a strip of tan foam at the 30% mark, projecting to the rear.
  2. Dub a thin tan underbody back to the bend and forward again to the 30% mark.
  3. Twist the foam strip into a tight rope and wrap it forward over the underbody in segmented turns to the 65% mark, building a tapered body; tie off.
  4. Tie in a deer-hair or synthetic wing over the back, tips reaching the bend.
  5. Cap the thorax with a short second piece of foam for the head, leaving a stub over the eye.
  6. Tie a knotted rubber leg on each side.
  7. Post a small tuft of fluorescent pink poly yarn on top as a sighter.
  8. Whip finish under the head and cement.
