Terrestrial · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook hopper/stinger (2x-3x long), 6-10
  • Thread tan 6/0

Materials

  • foam (body) Tan, 2mm (one strip)
  • round rubber legs Tan/barred rubber legs (2 pairs)
  • poly yarn or deer hair (wing) Tan elk hair (small bunch)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread and lay a base along the shank.
  2. Bind a tan foam strip at the bend and along the shank to the 30% mark, leaving a short stub tail.
  3. Fold the foam forward over the top and bind at two points to form a two-segment body, stopping at the 70% mark.
  4. Leave a foam lip projecting over the eye and trim it into a small blunt/cupped face so it pushes water and pops.
  5. Tie a knotted rubber leg on each side, front and rear, splayed out.
  6. Tie in a short poly or deer-hair wing over the back for visibility.
  7. Whip finish under the head and cement.
