Reference Recipe

  • Hook standard dry fly, 14-18
  • Thread brown 8/0

Materials

  • dubbing Honey/amber (pinch)
  • hackle Brown hackle (1)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread at the bend and dub a fat rear gaster ball of honey/amber dubbing over the back third.
  2. Advance the thread to the 60% mark (the waist) and tie in a brown hackle by the tip.
  3. Take 2-3 turns of hackle at the waist for the legs, then tie off and trim.
  4. Pinch the hackle fibers back and dub a smaller front head ball of honey dubbing up to the eye.
  5. Whip finish and cement.
