Reference Recipe

  • Hook curved scud/pupa, 12-16
  • Thread red 8/0

Materials

  • bead Gold or silver slotted tungsten bead (1 (sized to hook))
  • holographic tinsel Red or pearl holographic tinsel (one strand)
  • wire (optional rib) Fine silver (one strand)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the bead to the eye and start thread behind it.
  2. Tie in the holographic tinsel at the 70% mark.
  3. Wrap thread down to the bend and back to build a smooth, thin underbody.
  4. Wrap the tinsel forward in touching turns up to the bead and tie off.
  5. Optional: counter-rib with fine wire in 5 open turns for durability, then twist off.
  6. Whip finish behind the bead and coat the body with a thin layer of UV resin or head cement for a glassy shell.
