Holo-Point Red

Nymph · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Classic Recipe

  • Hook Jig nymph hook (60-degree), Hanak 450BL / Fulling Mill Jig Force, #14-18, #14-18
  • Thread Red (body) with a holographic red collar 10/0 / 70 denier

Materials

  • Hook Barbless jig hook, Hanak 450BL or equivalent, #14-18 (1)
  • Bead Slotted tungsten bead, gold or copper, 2.8-3.3mm (1)
  • Thread Red UTC 70 denier for the body; fl. red for the collar (-)
  • Tail Coq de Leon fibers, natural pardo (6-8 fibers)
  • Body Red Perdigon body quill or red thread body (coated), giving a bright segmented look (1 quill / thread)
  • Collar / hot spot Holographic red tinsel plus fl. red thread collar behind the bead (-)
  • Coating Thin UV resin over the whole body (-)

How to tie it

  1. Seat a gold slotted tungsten bead behind the eye of the jig hook. Start red thread behind the bead and run it to the bend.
  2. Tie in 6-8 coq de leon pardo tail fibers about half a shank-length long; bind the butts forward for a smooth slim underbody.
  3. Form the body: wind a red quill forward to just behind the bead (or build a tapered body from the red thread). Keep it thin so it sinks fast.
  4. Switch to fluorescent red thread, wind 2 turns of holographic red tinsel, then a short tight collar of red thread directly behind the bead. Whip finish.
  5. Coat the whole body and collar with thin UV resin and cure to a glossy shell, keeping the bead face clean.
