Classic Recipe

Hook Jig nymph hook (60-degree), e.g. Hanak H450BL or Fulling Mill Jig Force, #14-18, #14-18
Thread Fluorescent red (collar) over black (body) 10/0 / 70 denier

Hook Barbless jig hook, Hanak 450BL / Fulling Mill Jig Force, #14-18 (1)
Bead Slotted tungsten bead, gold, 2.8-3.3mm sized to hook (1)
Thread Black UTC 70 denier for the body; fl. red for the collar (-)
Tail Coq de Leon fibers, natural pardo (medium ginger-speckled) (6-8 fibers)
Body Stripped peacock quill (natural, dark-edged) or black Perdigon body quill (1 quill)
Collar / hot spot Holographic red tinsel or fl. red thread built into a small collar behind the bead (-)
Coating Thin UV resin (e.g. Solarez Bone Dry / Loon Thin) over the whole body (-)

Slide a gold slotted tungsten bead onto the jig hook (slot to the front) and seat it behind the eye. Start black thread behind the bead and run it to the bend.
Tie in 6-8 coq de leon pardo fibers at the bend for a tail about half a shank-length long, then bind the butts forward to build a slim, smooth underbody.
Tie in a stripped peacock quill by its thin tip at the bend. Wrap the quill forward in touching turns to just behind the bead so the natural dark edge segments the body, then tie off and trim.
Switch to fluorescent red thread and build a short, bright collar of 4-6 tight turns directly behind the bead. For extra flash, first wind 2 turns of holographic red tinsel here, then cover the front edge with the red thread. Whip finish.
Coat the entire quill body and collar with a thin layer of UV resin and cure, giving the perdigon its slick, fast-sinking shell. Keep the resin off the bead face.
