Classic Recipe
Hook Steelhead hook or shank, 2-6
Thread Black or red 6/0
Materials
Tail/Tag Flashabou (8-10 strands)
Body Ice Dub brush or dubbing loop (full)
Hackle Schlappen or marabou (palmered)
Collar Ostrich or CDC (full)
Bead or cone Tungsten bead (1)
How to tie it
Slide a cone or bead onto the hook before mounting.
Tie in 8-10 strands of Flashabou at the bend as a tag, about one shank length trailing behind.
Build the body with an Ice Dub dubbing brush, or spin Ice Dub in a dubbing loop and wrap forward. The loop technique traps fibers so they stand out from the body. Brush them back after each wrap.
Palmer a schlappen or marabou feather through the body in 3-4 open turns. These long, soft fibers are the swimming motion of the fly.
Wrap a collar of ostrich herl or CDC in front. 2-3 turns, full and flowing.
Tie off behind the cone, whip finish. Brush everything rearward so the fly has a clean, tapered flow from head to tag.
