Classic Recipe

• Hook Standard wet fly, 12-14
• Thread Red-brown 8/0 silk

Materials

• Tail Red hackle fibers (3-4 fibers)
• Body Dark red-brown tying silk (slim)
• Hackle Red-brown (dark ginger) hen hackle (1)
• Wing Woodcock wing quill slips (1 pair)

How to tie it

1. Wrap a slim body of the red-brown silk itself from eye to bend and back, old flies used the bare silk body for translucence.
2. Tie in a short tail of red hackle fibers.
3. Wind 2 sparse turns of red-brown hen hackle at the 80% mark.
4. Set matched woodcock slips low and sloping back over the body.
5. Whip finish a small head.
