Thread Black 8/0 (6/0, 140 or 210 denier all work; heavier thread builds the head faster)

Head cement Clear head cement (A bead down the underbody plus a drop on the head)
How to tie it
Lay a smooth thread base in touching turns all the way back along the long shank.
Cut a slant on the end of the large Mylar tinsel and tie it in at the rear from underneath at an angle, using the smallest tie-in point you can get away with so there is no lump; then take the thread forward in open wraps to the front and put in a half hitch.
Run a bead of head cement down the whole length of the underbody and spread it around. Optional, but it makes the tinsel body far more durable. Wipe off any excess.
Wind the tinsel forward, silver side out, with each wrap overlapping the previous one by about half and firm tension on the tinsel, taking your time to keep it flat and lump-free all the way to the front; secure with three or four wraps.
Turn the fly over and tie in a substantial bunch of green saddle hackle fibres as the throat, checking with a couple of wraps that they come off the bottom of the hook before locking them in; trim the excess.
Strip a few fibres off the base of two small red saddle hackle tips and tie them in on top as the underwing, a hint of red under the overwing. Use two or three medium wraps first so you can correct their position, then tight wraps.
Take two grizzly feathers from the soft side of a cape, curve toward the hook, and tie them in one at a time on top of the red, stripping a few fibres off the bottom of each for a clean tie-in and checking the position with loose wraps before securing.
Trim the butts, build a big streamer head, whip finish and add a drop of head cement.
