Reference Recipe

  • Hook wide-gap curved (TMC 2457), 8
  • Thread wine 140-denier (70-denier for finishing)

Materials

  • lead wire .030 (lift kit) n/a (two 4mm sections)
  • bead chain eyes Black, medium dumbbell eyes (1 pair)
  • Senyo's Laser Dub (abdomen) Fluorescent orange hot spot thread or dubbing (pinch)
  • Senyo's Laser Dub (thorax) Olive ice dub (pinch)
  • wood duck flank feathers Barred black and white wood duck flank feathers (2)
  • CDC White cdc (1 feather)

How to tie it

  1. Start wine thread mid-shank. Lash the two 4mm sections of.030 lead along the underside of the shank near the point, this 'lift kit' flips the fly to ride hook-point up.
  2. Tie the black bead-chain eyes on top of the shank about one eye-length back from the hook eye, locking them with tight figure-8 wraps.
  3. Tie a barred wood duck flank feather flat along each side as wings, tips reaching the bend.
  4. Dub olive Laser Dub around the shank and through the eyes for the thorax.
  5. Wrap one white CDC feather as a soft collar in front of the eyes and sweep the fibers back.
  6. Whip finish at the eye and add a tiny drop of cement.
