  • Hook 2XL-3XL dry-fly hook, 8-12
  • Thread Tan 6/0

Materials

  • Closed-cell foam Tan fly tying foam (1 strip for body)
  • Deer or elk hair Natural deer hair (1 clump for underwing)
  • Rubber legs Barred tan rubber legs (2 strands)
  • Poly yarn Fluorescent orange poly yarn (small tuft for indicator)

How to tie it

  1. Tie in a tan foam strip at the bend and bind it down along the shank, then fold it back over itself and cinch at the 70% mark to form a segmented foam body with a small rear tag.
  2. Stack a clump of deer hair and tie it in as a downwing over the body, tips reaching the bend, and trim the butts.
  3. Figure-8 a strand of barred rubber leg to each side at the 70% mark, kicking back.
  4. Fold the remaining foam forward over the wing butts to form a head and bind it just behind the eye.
  5. Tie in a short fluorescent poly tuft on top of the head as a sighter and trim it short.
  6. Whip finish under the foam head and add a drop of cement.
