  • Hook Standard dry-fly hook, 12-16
  • Thread Black 8/0

Materials

  • Moose body hair Dark moose body hair (several fibers for tail)
  • Turkey or pheasant tail Mottled brown pheasant tail (3-4 fibers for body)
  • Poly yarn Fluorescent white or orange poly yarn (small tuft for post)
  • Dry-fly hackle Brown and grizzly hackle (1 each)

How to tie it

  1. Start the thread at the bend and tie in a moose-hair tail a full shank length long.
  2. Bind in 3-4 mottled turkey or pheasant fibers by the tips at the bend for the body.
  3. Wrap the fibers forward as a segmented, buggy body to the 70% mark and tie off.
  4. Post up a short tuft of bright poly at the 70% mark as a hi-vis wing.
  5. Tie in brown and grizzly hackles and either parachute them around the post or take 4-5 upright turns through the thorax, then tie off at the eye.
  6. Whip finish and cement the head only.
