Hi-Vis Spinner

Dry Fly · Trout · Grayling · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard dry-fly hook, 14-20
  • Thread Rusty brown 8/0

Materials

  • Microfibbets Dun microfibbets (3-4 fibers for tails)
  • Dubbing Rusty brown (1 pinch)
  • Poly yarn or Zelon White with a hi-vis tuft (1 length for spent wings)
  • Poly yarn Fluorescent orange poly yarn (tiny tuft for post)

How to tie it

  1. Start the thread at the bend and split-tie 3-4 dun tail fibers, widely splayed, a full shank length long.
  2. Dub a slim, tapered rusty-brown body from the bend to the 65% mark.
  3. Tie in white poly across the shank and figure-8 it flat into outstretched spent wings, one shank length per side.
  4. Add a tiny upright fluorescent orange tuft at the wing junction so you can follow the flush-floating fly.
  5. Dub a slim thorax forward to the eye to lock the wings spent.
  6. Whip finish and cement the head.
