  • Hook Standard dry-fly hook, 18-22
  • Thread Black 8/0

Materials

  • Peacock herl Natural peacock herl (1 strand)
  • Dry-fly hackle Grizzly hackle (1 feather)
  • Poly yarn Fluorescent white or orange poly yarn (small tuft for post)

How to tie it

  1. Start the thread behind the eye and tie in a grizzly hackle by the tip along with a strand of peacock herl, then run the thread to the bend.
  2. At the 65% mark, tie in a short upright tuft of bright poly as a hi-vis post, trimmed to about a hook-gap tall, so you can spot this tiny fly.
  3. Wrap the peacock herl forward in touching turns to the eye to form a fuzzy body and tie off.
  4. Palmer the grizzly hackle forward through the herl in 5-6 open turns, working around the post, and tie off at the eye.
  5. Whip finish and add a tiny drop of cement, keeping it off the hackle.
