  • Hook Standard dry-fly hook, 14-18
  • Thread Black 8/0

Materials

  • Dubbing Black or cinnamon (1 pinch)
  • Poly yarn or Zelon White poly yarn (small clump for wings)
  • Poly yarn Fluorescent orange poly yarn (small tuft for post)
  • Dry-fly hackle Black or brown hackle (1 feather)

How to tie it

  1. Start the thread at the bend and dub a shiny rear gaster over the back third, then leave a bare waist.
  2. At the waist, tie in a small clump of white poly across the shank and figure-8 it into flat spent wings angled back, about one shank length each.
  3. Tie in a short upright fluorescent orange poly post right at the waist for visibility.
  4. Tie in a hackle at the waist and take 2-3 turns to suggest legs.
  5. Dub a smaller front head bump to the eye to complete the ant profile.
  6. Whip finish and add a drop of cement.
