Start the thread behind the eye, wrap back past the halfway point and return to the starting point.
Set the foam ant body on top of the shank with the white head sitting just past the eye and a little of the rear segment extending past the bend. Take three wraps, then pull down and let the foam spin around the shank a full 360 degrees, as with deer hair, so the last wrap locks it in place.
Pick up the rear segment, cheat the thread back a little and lash it down with about five wraps, then return to the starting spot to form the waist.
Pull about 20 fibers of chartreuse Antron from the hank, double them around the thread and lash them on top of the foam with a couple of wraps. Twist the bundle clockwise and take helicopter wraps around its base to bind it into a post.
Cut the Antron just above the foam so it splays; a final trim comes later.
Prep the black hackle by pulling off the fluff and trimming the stem close. Bind the stem on your side with a couple of wraps behind the post going around the whole feather, then pull the post forward and take a couple more wraps over the stem.
Take two or three turns of hackle, the first in front of the Antron, then working down. Hold the hackle up and wiggle the thread through the fibers so you trap as few as possible, then snip the hackle close.
Pull the materials back, take one wrap in front, and do a four or five turn whip finish pushed back against the foam body. Snip the thread.
Splay the Antron up and trim it shorter if it is long, keeping enough to see.
