Hi-vis Ant
Terrestrial · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version
Reference Recipe
- Hook Standard dry-fly hook, 14-18
- Thread Black 8/0
Materials
- Dubbing Black dubbing (1 pinch)
- Dry-fly hackle Black hackle (1 feather)
- Poly yarn Fluorescent orange poly yarn (small tuft for post)
How to tie it
- Start the thread at the bend and dub a shiny, round rear gaster (bump) over the back third of the shank, then leave a bare waist.
- At the 65% mark, tie in a short upright tuft of fluorescent orange poly as a hi-vis indicator post and trim it to about a hook-gap tall.
- Tie in a black hackle at the waist just behind the post.
- Take 2-3 turns of hackle around the waist to suggest legs and tie off.
- Dub a smaller front head bump ahead of the hackle to the eye, keeping the two-bump ant profile.
- Whip finish and add a tiny drop of cement.
