  • Hook 2XL-3XL dry-fly hook, 6-10
  • Thread Yellow 6/0

Materials

  • Zelon or antron Amber zelon or antron (small clump for shuck)
  • Dubbing Pale yellow dubbing (1 pinch)
  • Deer hair Natural tan deer hair (1 clump for wing)

How to tie it

  1. Start the thread at the bend and tie in a sparse, ragged amber Zelon shuck about one shank length long, X-caddis style, to hang as the trailing husk.
  2. Dub a tapered pale-yellow body from the bend forward to the 70% mark.
  3. Stack a clump of tan deer hair and tie it in as a downwing over the body, tips reaching just past the bend, butts trimmed short over the eye.
  4. Take a few tight thread wraps through the butt stubs to flare a small hair collar and pull the head low.
  5. Whip finish tight behind the eye and add a drop of cement.
