  • Hook 3XL nymph/streamer hook, 6-10

Materials

  • Marabou Tan/gold marabou (1 plume for tail and gills)
  • Dubbing Golden tan dubbing (1 pinch)
  • Wire Gold wire (1 length)
  • Turkey tail or pheasant Mottled pheasant tail or turkey (1 slip for wing case)
  • Partridge Natural partridge (1 feather for legs)

How to tie it

  1. Start the thread at the bend and tie in a short tuft of tan marabou for the tail, about half a shank long.
  2. Bind in a length of gold wire and a mottled turkey slip at the bend, leaving them hanging.
  3. Dub a fat, tapered golden-tan abdomen forward to the 60% mark, then counter-wrap the gold wire in 5-6 open turns and tie off.
  4. For the gills, tie in wisps of marabou along the sides of the abdomen as you dub, or dub with a picked-out shaggy body so it looks feathery.
  5. Dub a bulkier thorax up to the 85% mark.
  6. Pull the turkey slip forward over the thorax as a wing case and bind it down; sweep a few partridge fibers along each side as legs.
  7. Build a small head, whip finish, and cement.
