  • Hook 2XL-3XL dry-fly hook, 6-10
  • Thread Yellow 6/0

Materials

  • Marabou or Zelon Amber/brown marabou or zelon (small clump for shuck)
  • Dubbing Pale yellow dubbing (1 pinch)
  • Deer hair Natural tan deer hair (1 clump for wing)
  • Dry-fly hackle Grizzly hackle (1 feather)

How to tie it

  1. Start the thread at the bend and tie in a trailing shuck of amber marabou fibers about one shank length long to mimic the trapped nymphal skin.
  2. Dub a pale yellow abdomen from the bend forward to the 60% mark.
  3. Stack a clump of tan deer hair and tie it in as a downward-slanting emerging wing over the thorax, tips reaching the bend.
  4. Dub a slim thorax over the trimmed butts up to the 85% mark.
  5. Tie in a grizzly hackle and take 3-4 turns through the thorax, then trim the bottom barbs flat so the body slumps into the film.
  6. Whip finish and add a small drop of cement at the head.
