Classic Recipe

  • Hook 6x streamer, 2-6
  • Thread Black 6/0

Materials

  • Body Black floss (full)
  • Rib Flat silver tinsel (spiral)
  • Throat Yellow hackle fibers (beard)
  • Wing Yellow bucktail, sparse blue & purple flash, black bucktail over (layered)
  • Cheeks Jungle cock (optional)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the 6x streamer hook and lay a thread base the length of the shank.
  2. Tie in black floss and wrap a smooth, full body forward to one-third behind the eye.
  3. Rib with flat silver tinsel in 5-6 even open turns, tie off and snip.
  4. Turn the hook over (or work underneath) and tie in a sparse beard of yellow hackle fibres reaching to the point.
  5. Build the layered wing over the top: a sparse bunch of yellow bucktail first, a few strands of blue and purple flash, then black bucktail over all, wing extending to the end of the hook.
  6. Add jungle cock cheeks if using, then build a neat head, whip finish and lacquer.
