  • Hook Standard dry-fly hook, 12-14
  • Thread Rusty brown 8/0

Materials

  • Microfibbets or hackle fibers Dun microfibbets (3-4 fibers)
  • Calf body hair or poly yarn White calf body hair (small clump for post)
  • Dubbing Pinkish-tan (Hendrickson) (small pinch)
  • Dry-fly hackle Medium dun hackle (1 feather)

How to tie it

  1. Start the thread at the 70% mark and post up a clump of white calf hair or poly, standing it vertical with thread turns at its base.
  2. Run the thread to the bend and split-tie 3-4 dun tail fibers a full shank length long, splayed for balance.
  3. Dub a slim, tapered pinkish-tan body from the bend up to the post.
  4. Tie in a dun hackle at the base of the post with its shiny side up.
  5. Wind the hackle 4-5 turns down the post, each turn below the last, and secure the tip against the shank in front of the post.
  6. Dub a touch more body ahead of the post to the eye, then whip finish and cement the head only, keeping glue off the hackle.
