Tyer Recipe

  • Hook Salmon/steelhead wet, down-eye, 4-8
  • Thread Black 6/0

Materials

  • Hackle fibers Red hackle fibers (tail)
  • Floss or chenille (butt) Fluorescent green floss or chenille (short butt)
  • Chenille or dubbing Black dubbing (body)
  • Oval tinsel Silver oval tinsel (rib)
  • Saddle hackle Black saddle hackle (collar)
  • Bucktail or calf tail White bucktail (wing)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread and lay a base to the bend.
  2. Tie in a short red hackle-fiber tail at the bend.
  3. Form a short fluorescent-green butt at the base of the tail.
  4. Tie in the silver rib, then wrap a black chenille or dubbed body forward to just behind the eye.
  5. Rib the body with evenly spaced turns of silver tinsel and tie off.
  6. Wrap a black hackle collar and sweep the fibers back.
  7. Tie in a white bucktail wing over the top extending to the tail.
  8. Build a neat head, whip finish and cement.
