Reference Recipe

  • Hook Curved scud/pupa (TMC 2487), 16-20
  • Thread Black 8/0

Materials

  • Pearl tinsel or Krystal Flash Pearl flashabou (underbody)
  • Larva Lace tubing Clear head cement (overbody)
  • White foam cylinder White thin fly foam (small post)
  • Hare's ear dubbing Natural hare (thorax)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread behind the eye and lay a smooth base to the bend.
  2. Tie in a strand of pearl tinsel and wrap a flashy underbody forward, then back to the bend, keeping it smooth.
  3. Bind in a length of clear Larva Lace tubing at the bend, stretched thin.
  4. Wrap the Larva Lace forward in touching turns to the 70% mark so the pearl glows through, and tie off.
  5. Spiral the black tying thread forward over the body in 5-6 open turns for segmentation.
  6. Tie a short white foam cylinder upright at the thorax as a breather post/wing bud.
  7. Dub a small hare's ear thorax around the foam base.
  8. Whip finish and cement.
