How to tie it
Start the nano silk 12/0 white right where the body will meet the wing area. Wrap a thread base back along the shank to a point level with the hook point and snip the tag.
Prepare a clump of Grey Fox for the tail: stack it and comb it out. Bind it in at the rear, take one wrap underneath the tail to prop it up, then secure.
Fold the first of the 2 Brown Saddle Hackles and tie it in from underneath the hook at the tail tie-in. Tie the second folded saddle in the same spot.
Bind the tail and both hackles back out of the way with six to eight wraps of wire so they stay clear while you spin the body.
Spin the Caribou Hair in clumps, each about a pencil in diameter, one in front of the other, compressing each against the last. Seven clumps fill the body. Whip finish and trim the thread.
Trim the body in stages: long-bladed scissors around the perimeter first, thin-bladed scissors at an angle around the tail for the rough shape, then curved scissors to refine. Shave the excess with a razor blade broken in half, then touch up any uneven spots with scissors.
Undo the wire. Switch to nano silk 18/0 white for the wing and hackle area.
Palmer the first Brown Saddle Hackle forward through the body at a constant angle and even spacing; secure it by the stem and trim. Follow with the second hackle, secure and trim.
Tie in the Grey Fox wing, secure, and trim the butts flush with the body. Bind the wing from behind and from in front, split it evenly, then wrap between and around the base of each wing.
Tie in the three folded hackles (Brown and Cree) by the tip behind the wings, then tie in the fourth hackle by the butt.
