Streamer · Trout · Smallmouth Bass · Intermediate · 1 version

Classic Recipe

  • Hook Gamakatsu B10S (streamer/stinger hook), #2-4
  • Thread White 100 Denier (Veevus)

Materials

  • Thread White Veevus 100D (1 spool)
  • Eyes Medium painted lead dumbbell eyes, yellow (1 pair)
  • Tail & back Yellow black-barred rabbit (Zonker) strips (2 strips)
  • Body UV gold polar chenille (1 length)
  • Legs Yellow grizzly-barred round rubber legs (2-3 pairs)
  • Head/collar Yellow Laser Dub (1 clump)

How to tie it

  1. Lock the yellow lead dumbbell eyes on top of the shank about one eye-length behind the hook eye with figure-eight wraps and a drop of super glue (they flip the fly hook-up for a jigging action).
  2. At the bend tie in a yellow black-barred rabbit strip as a tail about one shank length long, hide side down so it swims.
  3. Tie in a second rabbit strip and a length of UV Gold Polar Chenille at the tail. Wrap the Polar Chenille forward to just behind the eyes for a flashy body and tie off.
  4. Pull the second rabbit strip forward over the top as a matuka-style back/wing and tie it down behind the eyes, giving a double rabbit-strip profile.
  5. Tie in the yellow grizzly-barred rubber legs in 2-3 pairs along the sides for maximum leg action.
  6. Pack yellow Laser Dub around and in front of the eyes to form a spun head/collar; whip finish and trim the head to a sculpin-ish taper.
