Harrop's Henry's Fork Caddis

Dry Fly · Trout · Intermediate · 3 versions

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard dry (TMC 100), 14-18
  • Thread Olive 8/0

Materials

  • Dry-fly hackle (palmered) Brown hackle (one)
  • Superfine dubbing Olive/tan body dubbing (body)
  • Natural deer hair Natural deer hair (wing and head)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread at the 70% mark and run it to the bend.
  2. Tie in a brown dry-fly hackle by the tip at the bend, then dub a slim olive-tan body forward to the 70% mark.
  3. Palmer the hackle forward in 5-6 open turns and tie off; then trim the hackle flush across the bottom so the fly sits flat on the water.
  4. Stack a small clump of natural deer hair, measure to the bend, and tie it in as a low tent-style down-wing with the butts facing forward over the eye.
  5. Pull the deer butts back and take firm thread wraps to stand a short bullet head/collar; trim the butt stubs neatly.
  6. Whip finish at the eye and cement the head.
