Wing CDC, natural; Hungarian Partridge back feather barbs
How to tie it
Start the Benecchi 12/0 black on the Tiemco 102Y just behind the eye. Bind in the Grizzly dyed dun hackle and one strand of Peacock herl right at the eye, advance the thread a little and trim the waste ends. Run the thread to the end of the shank.
Bind in the Goose biot dyed olive by its tip at the end of the shank, then run the thread back up to about a quarter shank behind the eye.
Grip the biot in hackle pliers and wrap it forward in touching turns up to the waiting thread. Tie it off and trim the waste.
For the first part of the wing, bunch the tip of a natural CDC feather and bind it down on top of the shank, tips extending a little beyond the bend.
For the second part, take a Hungarian Partridge back feather, strip the barbs down from the tip and snip the tip away, then bunch the next section of barbs and bind them on top of the CDC, the same length or marginally longer. Bind firmly and trim the waste of both the partridge and the CDC stem.
Wrap the peacock herl in touching turns back toward the waiting thread, tie it down and leave the waste for now.
Clip the hackle pliers onto the grizzly hackle and wrap it back toward the waiting thread over the herl, then bring the thread through it at a steep angle forward to the eye. Finish with a simple three-turn whip finish, then trim the hackle waste and the herl waste.
Trim the hackle barbs underneath a little shorter so the fly lies flush in the film.
