Harrop's CDC Spent Midge

Midge · Trout · Beginner · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard dry (TMC 100), 18-24
  • Thread Black 14/0

Materials

  • CDC feathers White/light dun cdc feathers (2 (spent wings))
  • Tying thread or biot Black goose biots (body)
  • Superfine dubbing Gray superfine dubbing (thorax)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread at the bend and build a slim, smooth, segmented body of tying thread (or a wound black biot) forward to the 65% mark.
  2. Select two short CDC feathers and tie them in splayed flat to each side as spent wings, each about half a shank long; figure-8 to lock them horizontal.
  3. Dub a tiny pinch of gray over the wing roots to form a thorax and hide the figure-8 wraps.
  4. Whip finish under the eye, no cement on the CDC.
