Start the Olive UTC 140 on the Tiemco 5263 and bind a pair of Red Lead Eyes on top of the shank with figure-8 and X wraps until they are secure; a little superglue helps hold them.
Run the thread back to the bend. Cut a strip of the Natural Zonker Rabbit and bind it in on top at the rear with tight wraps, hair back, a hair longer than the shank. Advance the thread forward.
Take the hook out of the vise and push the point through the hide of the Black Zonker Rabbit strip, threading it all the way up the bend so it hangs beneath the fly as the belly. Push it out of the way for now.
For the pectoral fins take two short, round hen back feathers (pheasant rump, partridge or hen neck also work) and bind one on each side of the hook with the curve splaying away from the shank.
Bind in the Red Saddle Hackle for gills, take a few turns, capture it and snip the tip. Fold the fibers back, lock them with a couple of wraps and trim the excess.
Jump the thread in front of the eyes. Pull the natural rabbit strip forward over the top, bind it down and trim the excess; pull the black strip forward along the bottom, bind it down the same way and trim. Take a quick whip finish.
Trim off all the hair on top of the fly that is lashed down along the body, leaving the tail of the natural strip long. Do not cut the gills or the pectoral fins.
Add a tiny bit of Tear Mender or superglue to the hide of the tail and glue the two strips together. Tidy the head and give it a proper whip finish.
